🥵Phew! Things are really heating up this week, with temperatures soaring over 30 degrees.

If you’ve got solar installed, don’t be afraid to use your air conditioner! By using it wisely, you can stay cool and save money.

Here are a few smart tips to help you beat the heat and make the most of your solar:

👉 Set your air conditioner to start early in the afternoon, even if you're not home. Running it during peak solar production uses your own energy, keeps costs down, and reduces its workload as the evening cools.

👉 Stick to 24°C in summer and 20°C in winter. These settings strike the perfect balance between comfort and efficiency.

👉 On humid days, use the dehumidifier function on your air conditioner. Humidity can make the heat feel worse, and this mode is often more energy-efficient than cooling. Plus, it helps prevent mould!

👉 Close curtains or blinds on sunny windows, especially on the western side. This simple step keeps your home cooler, so your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard.

Make the most of your solar power, stay cool, and enjoy guilt-free comfort this summer!

This intense storm brought massive hail, causing widespread damage across the region.

CAN SOLAR PANELS WITHSTAND HAIL?

𝐘𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭! Reputable panels are tested to handle hailstones up to around 20mm in size. But if the hail is larger, it can cause serious damage - not just to your panels but to your property. That’s why we recommend adding your solar system to your home and contents insurance for peace of mind.

What to do if your system was hit by hail:
1️⃣ Check your inverter: Look for any red lights. If you see one, switch off your system until it’s inspected. Most newer systems have shutdown instructions on the inverter or in your owner’s manual.
2️⃣ Contact your insurer: Many policies let you choose your own repairer, and we’re here to help.
3️⃣ Schedule an inspection: Once you’ve spoken with your insurer, call us! We’re qualified to inspect, report on, and repair your system, even if we didn’t install it originally.

Important: Hail can cause micro-cracks in solar cells that you might not see. If you’re unsure, turn off your system and let us take a look, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

🌞 FAQ: Why do you install more panels than the inverter's capacity?

In most solar setups, the panel array size is often a bit larger than the inverter size? This is called “oversizing,” and it’s done for a good reason!

When you have a slightly larger panel array (like 6.6 kW) paired with a smaller inverter (like 5 kW), your system captures more energy, especially on cloudy days or during early and late sunlight hours. This setup keeps your inverter working at its best, maximizing your energy production and saving you more in the long run.

Summer is upon us, so don’t forget to switch your ceiling fan back to its summer setting!

Did you know most ceiling fans have two rotation settings? In summer, set your fan to rotate anti-clockwise (downward draft) for a refreshing breeze that cools your space. In winter, switching it to clockwise (updraft) helps redistribute warm air from the ceiling, saving on heating costs.

Give it a quick check and stay cool efficiently this season!
